I think they are standing up very well”—and compared them to the new program. “I think they sent me the first four or five scripts to look at the supporting part, and to get a feel for the tone and what they were going for. You can make art or animation in different ways. You can do it either just for kids, or you can make it technically like a Bugs Bunny cartoon, where it’s great for adults who are funny. There are some things that I think adults will enjoy that will be off limits to kids.”
Wang is now a teenager, but he was a child when he joined Gremlins list. “At that time I was only 11 years old, and I had not really learned about many old films back then. I searched Gremlins and saw a large fan section. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll actually try this one.’ When I finished the booking [the role of Sam], that was the best time for me.” From the beginning, he was open to slightly dangerous shenanigans. “When I read the script, I’m not going to lie – seeing as the production stuff, it wasn’t scary. And then when I saw the real horror stuff I was like, ‘Wow, that’s not what I expected at all!’ It upset me a little bit. It’s funny to watch.”
