Six former Yorkshire players and coaches – including Gary Ballance and Tim Bresnan – have been fined and suspended by The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) for “using racist and/or racist language”.
Yorkshire County Cricket Club will face sanctions on June 27. Yorkshire admitted four charges including “failing to tackle the systematic use of racist and/or racist language over a long period of time”.
All six people can appeal the sentences.
All CDC sanctions:
- Gary Ballance – six-match ban (to be repeated if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a player) and a £3,000 fine. Mr Ballance is also criticized, along with the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out the necessary racism/discrimination studies identified by the ECB, and its funding, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or coaching.
- John Blain – £2,500 fine. Mr Blain was also criticized, as well as the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out appropriate racism/discrimination studies identified by the ECB, at his own cost, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or coaching.
- Tim Bresnan – three match ban (to be served if he returns to ECB regulated cricket as a player) and £4,000 fine. Mr Bresnan has also been criticized, along with the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out appropriate racism/racism studies identified by the ECB, and his funding, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or coaching.
- Andrew Gale – four-week suspension from coaching cricket (to take effect if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a coach) and a £6,000 fine. Mr Gale was also criticized, along with the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out the necessary racism/discrimination studies identified by the ECB, and his funding, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or coaching.
- Matthew Hoggard – £4,000 fine. Mr Hoggard has also been criticized, along with the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out appropriate racism/discrimination studies identified by the ECB, and his funding, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or coaching.
- Richard Pyrah – two-week suspension from coaching cricket (to start if he returns to ECB-regulated cricket as a coach) and a £2,500 fine. Mr. Pyrah is also criticized, along with the CDC’s strong recommendation to carry out appropriate studies on racism / discrimination identified by the ECB, and his money, especially if he wants to return to cricket in any sport or training.
Earlier in May, the ECB recommended fines of up to £37,000 for Yorkshire players accused of racism.
