Amazon has a feature that is very popular: instead of just showing static images when the screen is on the stand, it can show the cover of the book you’re reading.
Thanks to the E Ink display, a Kindle it has a picture when it sleeps – and you can choose the cover of the book you’re reading to be displayed, instead of a pile of pens or old writing instruments.
It’s a great way to remind you of what you’re reading, and also to bring you back to an interesting book you’ve skimmed through.
How to start drawing on your Kindle
Getting the background images to display is easy, but first you need to make sure you have a compatible Kindle, and the latest Kindle software, which can vary from region to region. Compatible models are: Kindle (8th, 10th, 11th Gen), Kindle Paperwhite (7th, 10th, 11th Gen), Kindle Oasis (8th, 9th, 10th Gen), and Kindle Voyage (7th Gen). You’ll also need to have an ad-free Kindle, because apparently the screen protector will replace where the ads would go.
If you meet all the requirements, follow these steps:
- Enter settings by clicking on the top of your device.
- Select “all settings”. it is the “tool of choice”.
- Then select the Show Cover option at the top of the page.

Why isn’t my Kindle showing the cover art?
There may be several reasons, first you need to see that you have a similar version of Kindle, but as mentioned above, you must have the version without ads, otherwise you will see ads on the screen instead. If the answer is no, check that you are using the latest software by going to general settings > device options > advanced options > update your Kindle.
