What makes these rumors more reliable than others is that they come from the well-known company Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. He claims in a recent report that Apple is looking for a way to make iPhones more useful when they are [sitting] on someone’s desk or nightstand.” The technology is said to be based on a custom lock from iOS 16 that allows users to “see small notifications”.
Beyond that, not much is known. Gurman’s unnamed sources say that the iOS 17 feature works in a similar way Amazon’s Echo Show it will display and use a “dark background with bright text” similar to the Apple Watch’s Nightstand Mode.
