Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is the true successor to the 2022 Razr. It has the largest outdoor display we have seen so far. So big that it even surrounds the rear cameras. Much of that is still unknown at this point, but it certainly looks the part.
All rumors point to a Motorola reveal two new Razr phones at its opening ceremony on June 1 2023.
Globally, they will be called the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, however, the Ultra version is expected to be launched in the US as the Motorola Razr+. This makes things a bit confusing, but since we’re not sure if the cheaper version will be launched in the US, we’ll be using the international naming scheme for the purposes of this article.
Since these phones have not been officially revealed yet, we have to rely on leaks and rumors to find out. This means you can expect a few glitches, but we should still give you a good idea of what to expect when these phones arrive.
Description, price and availability
Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra should be announced on June 1 2023. Motorola shared a teaser video on Twitter that shows two flip phones in silhouette, showing that we can expect new devices to be revealed on this date.
We don’t know when they will go on sale, nor have we confirmed the prices. However, the latest release suggests that the Razr 40 Ultra will sell for around $1,000 – which would be compatible with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
If so, we can expect the Razr 40 to surpass or match it Oppo Find N2 Flipwhich goes for £849 in the UK – but time will tell if this turns out to be the case.
As mentioned, another leak has suggested that the Razr 40 Ultra will launch as the Motorola Razr+ in the US. We haven’t heard anything about the launch of the Razr 40, however, so it could be the only one available for American customers.

Design and appearance
Most of the information we have now revolves around the design of the two devices, and it is possible that this will be the main difference.
The Razr 40 Ultra has an impressive exterior display that surrounds the rear cameras. It’s the largest external display we’ve seen on a smartphone and the first time we’ve seen such a large notch. It’s a unique and fun look.

The Razr 40 is much smaller in comparison, with a smaller external display. We don’t know the size of this screen, but it seems to be similar to the one found on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The internal fold is expected to be the same on both devices, measuring 6.67 inches, as Razr 2022. We don’t know for sure, but since the 2022 version has a 144Hz refresh rate, we expect the same, if not better.
The Razr 40 Ultra will be available in Barberry, Black and Blue colourways – with Barberry being the bold pink color. The phone appears to have the same build as the 2022 Razr, with a matte glass back to the bottom, and a glossy finish on the outer display.
The Razr 40 looks different, it has a vegan leather that covers the outside of the device. It’s a beautiful design, and it’s available in Olive Green, Purple and Cream colors.
Electronic devices
When it comes to hardware, the details are very simple. It has been Geekbench output who says we can expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and 8GB of RAM on the Razr 40 Ultra – which is the same configuration we saw on the Razr 2022.

That’s pretty good information to go on for now, but we’d be a little surprised if that turns out to be the case. We hope, given the release window, to see a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the contrary.
We think it’s possible that the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra will share the same SoC, being differentiated by their memory and storage options, as well as the size of the external display.
Cameras
So far, almost all of the rumors and camera leaks have been focused on the Razr 40 Ultra, and it doesn’t sound like we’ll be getting a huge upgrade for the 2022 model, at least in terms of megapixels.
It looks like the Razr 40 Ultra will have a 12MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera, along with a 32MP selfie snapper. This is surprising, since the Razr 2022 had a 50MP main shooter – so in terms of resolution, the new model may be lower.
However, as we have learned many times, the number of megapixels is not everything. It’s generally better to have fewer, larger pixels, because they help with low light and less dependence. pixel art.

At this point, there are too many unknowns to say for sure which brand is the best. It seems clear that the main difference between these devices will be the size of the external appearance.

For its 2022 update, the Razr received much-needed attention from Motorola. It has looked at all the important things, offering a very affordable phone with a powerful display and a large display.
However, the question remains as to what you will be able to do with this big outdoor show. So far, the external screen has been little used in mobile phones, and that is true for all manufacturers. Of course, a bigger screen means more information, at least.
Therefore, even if the main display looks cool, if it is different between the models, then we believe that it can do some useful things. Otherwise, it would make sense to go with a cheaper model.
