Ron DeSantis was supposed to take to Twitter Spaces today to officially announce his 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Unfortunately for the Florida governor, it seems Twitter wasn’t prepared for the amount of people waiting to hear the announcement. Soon after Space started, the broadcast went down and DeSantis waited before announcing that he was running for President of the United States of America.
“We’ve got so many people here that I think we’re melting the servers, which is a good sign,” said Republican megadonor and Elon Musk’s confidante David Sacks during Space’s brief comeback before crashing again. The announcement came after Twitter moved Space to Sacks’ account because “Musk’s account violated the system.” Sacks said Space, with more than 500,000 listeners at one point, is the largest group that has “ever met on the Internet,” a they say that they were insulted immediately.
“When Elon Musk went up to buy Twitter he paid a lot of money. And I’m sure because it’s a good business – Elon, I’m sure you’ll be able to make money – but the bottom line is you have to put your money where your mouth is,” DeSantis said about Twitter’s purchase of After Musk Space runs out.
