Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, is a teenager from Brooklyn, New York who drops out of his prestigious school called Brooklyn Visions Academy. His father, Jefferson, is a policeman; his mother, Rio, is a nurse; and loves art and music.
One day, while taking pictures on the subway with his uncle Aaron, Miles is bitten by a spider that gives him super powers. When he wants to know more about the spider’s origin, he sees a fight between Spider-Man and the Kingpin. Spider-Man tries to stop the Kingpin from using a giant machine that can destroy space and time and, in doing so, Spider-Man is killed by the Kingpin. Before he dies, Spider-Man senses that Miles is like him and promises Miles that he will stop the Kingpin and destroy the machine, which he calls a hit.
In the beginning, Miles is just beginning to learn about his powers; along the way, he meets several other Spider-people who were brought to Peter’s world through the Kingpin’s collision. By the end of the movie, he has been the official Spider-Man in his universe for exactly two days.
