Telsa and Ford today announced that the majority Tesla the owners have been scared. In a Twitter Opportunities SpeakingTesla CEO Elon Musk and his partner Jim Farley said that starting next spring all current and future Ford electric cars will find about 12,000 Tesla Supercharger stations in North America.
The move helps Tesla qualify for a portion of billions of federal dollars to improve America’s electric vehicle charging capabilities, making life easier for Ford EV owners. For Tesla customers, however, it will which means waiting a long time in the laundromat—even though many have already complained about their mess.
“That’s one thing that worries me — whether it’s going to increase congestion,” John Sergeant, owner of Tesla in Seattle, said. he said and Wall Street Journal in February. He added that while the non-Teslas take the coveted spot, “they have to put in more chargers.”
Not that Musk didn’t say the day would come. He indicated a few years ago that his car manufacturer would open up its network to others. Musk today also said he doesn’t want Tesla’s manufacturing facilities to be a “walled garden,” adding, “It’s our desire to do everything we can to support Ford and for Ford to be the same at Tesla Superchargers.”
Current Ford vehicles will need an adapter for Tesla charging stations, but the second generation in 2025 will use Tesla’s charging connector in North America.
Last November, Tesla said it would share its EV connectivity design with other automakers, write on his blog: “We are calling on network operators and car manufacturers to install Tesla’s charging connector and port, now called the North American Charging Standard (NACS), on their devices and vehicles.”
Ford’s Farley, speaking to Musk today, praised the Tesla stations: “This is a big challenge for our customers… we love the location, we love the reliability… It’s amazing what you and your team have done for the customers.”
Tesla customers who now use these stations, understandably, have little to cheer about.
