WhatsApp has been on a real street lately, releasing new product after new product since March. This time, the platform is said to be working on adding usernames to its Android app.
This comes from WABetaInfo, which dug into the files of the latest beta version of Android when it found that the update will be in the options under the Account History page. It looks like you will be able to give yourself a unique drawing by clicking on the pencil icon and entering a name. Simple things. WABetaInfo was also able to confirm that “conversations initiated by usernames will be protected by end-to-end encryption.”
Aside from a few confirmations, very little is known about the feature. It is still under development although WABetaInfo confirms that it can be used as “another secret”. Instead of having a phone number for the whole world to see, you can hide it with a username. Also, they can make it easier to identify and find other people. No need to remember a phone number. This can be very useful in a WhatsApp groups which can be a definite number as it can have more than 1,000 members.
But, it’s just speculation at this point. We’ll just have to wait until Meta releases the official beta version to find out. Either way, this is something to look forward to once it’s launched.
Direct privacy
The latest beta is available for download from Google Play Beta Program. Although you can’t create a unique username, you can check new group list. The interface has been redesigned for better clarity and clarity. We don’t know if WhatsApp usernames will make it to the iOS app. However, Meta is very good at ensuring that all parts of the phone are updated in the same way – even if it takes a while.
Privacy changes have been the focus of WhatsApp for the past month. In early May, Meta announced that it was partnering with Truecaller to stop spam calls from reaching users on its messaging platform. For more self-control, the company has also introduced Chat Lock to keep your conversations private.
If you want to improve your privacy, you may want to install a new phone instead of relying on apps. Be sure to check out TechRadar’s list of the most secure phones of May 2023 for other purposes.
